Uber and Lyft Drivers Fight for Better Wages in California

Eight years ago Margarita Penolosa said she was earning $30 per hour after expenses driving for Uber and Lyft. Now with high gas prices and less earnings due in part to Proposition 22, she’s barely netting between $6 and $10 after expenses.
Companies including Uber and Lyft spent more than $200 million to pass Proposition 22, which allows rideshare companies to keep drivers classified as independent contractors. But a new California law may soon enable gig workers in the state to negotiate with rideshare companies for better working conditions.
