NO WAY TO LIVE

On the brink of homelessness

Photos by Barbara Davidson

Sarah Fay is 28, a college graduate, and has a full-time job. She does not have stable housing. As rents have soared and wages have failed to keep up, workers like Sarah, especially those in expensive areas like Los Angeles, struggle to afford a place to live. When family instability and other personal challenges are added to the mix, the possibility of homelessness becomes very real. Individuals may move in and out of homelessness with a change in finances, family relationships or personal health. Reporter Ethan Ward and photographer Barbara Davidson chronicled Sarah Fay’s struggles through this three-part series.

No Place to Call Home

As Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass declares a state of emergency on housing, residents like Sarah Fay live on the brink of being unhoused.
