Exposés Highlights — Thank You for Supporting Capital & Main's Media Awards Gala

Lisa Ling, keynote speaker at Capital & Main's Exposés Media Awards Gala

It was a night to remember. On June 15, Capital & Main held its 5th annual awards gala celebrating excellence in social impact journalism, media and publishing at the historic Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. More than 250 guests were in attendance from a broad range of sectors including media, business, government, entertainment, labor and academia. The event raised $270,000 to support Capital & Main’s award-winning coverage.

Keynote speaker Lisa Ling spoke passionately about the threats to a free press and democracy posed by the corporatization of media while Capital & Main publisher Danny Feingold shared his vision for mission-driven reporting on inequality and climate change. Abigail Disney, recipient of the Adam McKay Social Impact Media Award, revealed the deeply personal motivation for her powerful documentary on the treatment of Disney theme park workers. Honoree Nancy Cohen made an eloquent case for more coverage of gender inequality and fellow honoree Dorian Warren offered a profound meditation on the link between storytelling and social change. The program, which was hosted by Emmy-winning journalist Giselle Fernandez, also featured a moving reading by L.A.’s most recent poet laureate, Lynne Thompson.

Capital & Main is grateful to everyone who attended and supported this year’s Exposés.
